If you wear glasses while wearing a face mask, chances are you’ve spent way too much time since COVID began trying to see through the steamy fog on your lenses. And with the arrival of summer, warmer weather means even foggier glasses.
Yeah, we know, face masks are far less common now, but they’re still around, and the whole mask-glasses issue hasn’t disappeared. So if you’re still trying to find a way to battle the fog of breath condensation on your eyeglasses, maybe it’s time to stop trying to find an instant solution and instead choose a better mask. Choosing the best facemask for glasses definitely comes with a few things to consider.
Along with silly TikTok dances and wildly popular feta cheese and pasta recipes, there have been a slew of videos released over the last 2 years claiming to have the perfect rescue for fogged glasses. Some people swore that if you washed your glasses with everything from soap and water to dish soap to shaving cream, your glasses would remain fog free…only none of those tips really worked.
So what tips do work? We gathered the best ones on choosing the right face mask details to minimize lens fogging. So before shopping for your next face mask, keep an eye out for these details:
Did you know that some face masks are specifically designed to be worn with glasses? We noticed that the MSK3 mask from Oakley is designed for both athletes and those wearing glasses. Also worth noting, the description says “Designed with seal, filtration, fit and eyewear integration in mind.” In other words, this mask is designed to fit snugly and keep glasses from fogging up.
Shopping tip: Try shopping for masks made for specific sports. For instance cyclists often wear glasses or goggles to keep the wind or particles out of their eyes. Masks made for cyclists might have a more snug fit as well.
Much in the same way that your workout clothes pull the sweat from your body, look for a mask that does the same. Less sweat on your face also means less fog on your glasses.
If you’re constantly tugging at your face mask, it’s probably not the right fit for your face. That could also mean that you’re moving your mask around and somehow that breath is getting under your glasses and fogging up your lenses.
Shopping tip: Double check the labels and make sure you’re buying a mask made for adults and not kids. Bonus points if they offer masks for small or large faces.
Just like your eyeglasses, a nose grip on your mask helps keep things in place. And while the nose grip on your glasses keeps them up, a nose grip on your face mask keeps it securely in place. It also prevents small bursts of exhaled breath from getting stuck under the lenses of your glasses.
Shopping tip: Look for a nose grip that isn’t too thick or rigid but easily can be bent to fit the shape of your nose.
If you just want to make the mask you already wear fit better, try MaskTite which uses double sided medical-grade tape to make your mask fit better and your glasses fog less!
If you want to try a pair of glasses designed not to fog, we have a few frames for you to consider.
If you mostly want to protect your eyes while working with small pieces of wood or other fiddly bits, look for a basic eye shield. We recommend Oakley protective glasses to help with anti fog.
We love the geeky chic look of these protective frames that have a built-in ventilation system to reduce lens fogging even when you’re at your sweatiest.
We’ve also noticed that extra small frames or oversized glasses seem to do a better job of reducing eyeglasses fog when wearing masks.
Masks aside, we’re here for any other eyewear need you may have. You can always find your perfect pair from the biggest selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses (including prescription!) anywhere, with a Virtual Try-On Glasses, quiz, and many more tools to match you with glasses that are just right for you.
